Autism and the DIR/Floortime Method

The DIR stands for Developmental, Individual Differences, and Relationship- Based framework. Emphasises a personalised, relationship driven approach to child development. It encourages therapists to meet children where they are development. It encourages therapist to meet children where they are developmentally and honour their uniqueness and work forth for their interests, passions, and learning. It challenges the traditional educate and development approach that often impose a one- size- fits- all model. DIR promotes connection, empathy, and support, rather than judgement or rigid expectations. The key is to nurture children’s individual differences, celebrate their strengths, and create meaningful, hands- on learning experiences. The video also talks about the importance of social interactions and body movement which are crucial to learning and knowing oneself.
