This presentation focuses on the developmental trajectories of autism symptoms from early to middle childhood, based on data from the Autism Phenome Project at the University of California Davis MIND Institute. Autism is behaviorally diagnosed through two core symptom domains: social communication deficits and restricted, repetitive behaviors (RRBs). These symptoms vary in severity and can change over time. The findings highlight the heterogeneity of autism and the importance of early intervention, as some children show improvement while others experience worsening symptoms despite receiving similar interventions. The research underscores the need for individualized, developmentally informed support strategies to address changing symptom severity over time.
