Supporting autistic students through university

This webinar, hosted by the Centre for Research in Autism and Education (CRAE) at UCL, explores the challenges faced by non-speaking autistic children and autistic university students, emphasizing participatory research approaches. It highlights how intelligence and abilities of non-speaking autistic children are often underestimated due to limited communication tools and discusses barriers autistic students face in accessing support in higher education. The talk underscores the shift from a medical to a social model of disability, advocating for more inclusive and accessible university environments. A unique aspect of this webinar is its commitment to participatory research, ensuring that autistic individuals contribute at every stage, from study design to outcome dissemination.
