What are Prompts?
Prompts are the stimuli presented by the therapist to ensure the occurrence of a response. Prompts are cues given by an instructor to the child to make sure the child succeeds at the task.
Types of Prompts
There are different types of Prompts, such as physical prompts, modelling prompts, gestural prompts, visual prompts, positional prompts, and verbal prompts.
Prompt Hierarchy
Prompt hierarchy is the structured use of prompts in a systematic way to teach or guide a person towards mastering a skill or behavior. During therapy, a therapist, with the help of prompt hierarchy, decides what prompt to begin with when teaching new skills.
One of the key components during therapy is also to remove the prompt once the child acquires the new skill; otherwise, the child will remain dependent on the prompt for doing that task.
