How to Reduce Hitting Behaviors in Children with Autism

In this video, Mary Barbera shares her insight on how to manage and reduce hitting behaviors in children with autism.

According to her, the first and foremost step is to identify the triggers that lead to aggressive hitting behavior (such as frustration and communication barriers). Barbera emphasizes the use of ABA therapy techniques to reinforce positive behavior in kids and redirection of behavior to decrease hitting.

To reduce aggressive hitting behavior of the kid, follow strategies like being calm when the child is showing aggression, ensuring the safety of the child and everyone around the child, and teaching the child the alternative ways to express needs.
