Difference between ABA and OT

In the video, Dr. Puja Kapoor from Continua is describing the differences between ABA and occupational therapy.

According to her, ABA is a therapy that focuses on behavior modification and skill acquisition for children with autism. ABA therapists use positive reinforcement to encourage desirable behaviors and work on social and communication skills.

OT (Occupational Therapy), on the other hand, targets the development of motor skills, sensory integration, and functional independence in daily activities, such as eating and dressing. ABA and OT therapies can be complementary.

Towards the end of the video, during Q&A sessions, there’s a discussion on fading. Fading is the gradual removal of reinforcers after the desired skills are learned to eliminate the association between the behavior and the reinforcement.
