Employing Brain Stimulation to Enhance Language Processing in Aphasia -Roy Hamilton, PhD – UPenn

This abstract discusses advancements in neuromodulation techniques for treating aphasia, a common cognitive deficit following stroke and in neurodegenerative disorders. While traditional speech and language therapies offer some benefits, there is a lack of targeted neural interventions. Dr. Hamilton’s work over the past decade explores noninvasive neuromodulation techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), to both study language networks and enhance recovery in individuals with aphasia. The presentation will highlight existing gaps in the field and propose future directions for integrating neuromodulation into clinical practice for language rehabilitation.
