Schedules of Reinforcement
This video explains the schedules of reinforcement in applied behavior analysis.
The different reinforcement schedules are used to shape and maintain behaviors in ABA therapy. Types of reinforcement schedules are:
- Continuous reinforcement: Continuous reinforcement provides reinforcement after every instance of a behavior.
- Intermittent Reinforcement: Reinforcement is given in an irregular manner. Types of intermittent reinforcement are:
- fixed ratio (reinforcement is given after a set number of responses).
- Variable Ratio (reinforcement after an unpredictable number of responses)
- fixed interval (reinforcement after a set number of responses).
- Variable interval (reinforcement is given after varying time intervals).
Intermittent reinforcement is effective only in the case of already established behavior. Selecting the right schedule of reinforcement depends solely on the behavior goals.
