Sensory Play at Home: Proprioceptive Games

This video is about sensory play at home. Engaging children in sensory play at home can be enjoyable and beneficial for their development. The proprioceptive system, which helps in understanding body position and movement, can be stimulated through various fun activities like:

  • Animal Walks: Encourage kids to perform different animal walks like dinosaur stomps, frog jumps, crab walks, snake crawls, and elephant walks. These activities strengthen muscles, enhance balance, and boost coordination.
  • Crab Soccer: In this game, children play in the crab walk position, using their feet to kick a ball around. This strengthens muscles and enhances body awareness while adding a playful element.
  • Wheelbarrow Races: Hold your child’s ankles while they walk on their hands and feet. This activity builds strength in the shoulders, arms, and hands while improving body awareness.
  • Rolling and Crashing: Create a tower with soft items like pillows for the child to roll and crash into. This playful exercise offers proprioceptive and vestibular input.
  • Couch Cushion Sandwich: Lay cushions on the floor and have your child lay face down, then squish them with another cushion. This provides calming deep pressure.
  • Blanket Burrito: Roll a child in a blanket while they lie on their back, ensuring it’s snug but safe. For added challenge, have them crawl out while you hold the bottom.

These activities are designed not just for fun but also to help children regulate their energy levels, making it easier for them to engage in quieter activities afterward, such as homework or meals.”
