Supporting Sensory Processing: Balance Input in OT

In Occupational Therapy, balance input relates to how the vestibular system helps the body maintain balance, coordination, and spatial awareness. Individuals with sensory processing challenges may be over-responsive, under-responsive, or have difficulty interpreting this input. OTs use movement-based activities, core strengthening, proprioceptive input, and environmental adjustments to support balance and regulation. They assess sensory needs using standardized tools and create personalized interventions to improve safety, coordination, and participation in daily life.
