Pivotal Response Treatment

A Life-Changing Therapy for Children with Autism

This video from Yale Medicine is showing the journey of an autistic girl who struggles with making eye contact and with engaging in conversations.

The primary areas of deficit in autism are social interaction skills, language, and communication skills. The approaches that can help children with autism are individualized treatment plans and pivotal response treatment (PRT).

PRT is a behavioral treatment method that supports language development and social interaction. Developing objectives and an analysis of the behaviors that need improvement is done; in this video, the therapist uses bubbles to motivate the child to communicate and also includes parents in the therapy session to maintain consistency of practice across all settings.
