ABA Skills Training Requesting ‘MANDS’

This video introduces the concept of ‘Mands’ or requests in ABA therapy.

What Is ‘Mands’?

‘Mand’ is a request made by the learner to fulfill a need or desire. The mands are used to teach the children with autism to communicate their wants.

The video also explains how a therapist can use prompts (prompts are the assistance or cues used by the therapist to encourage the use of a skill). Modeling (modeling is a teaching technique where the learner learns with the help of imitation of the target behavior from someone who has already mastered that skill), Reinforcement (reinforcement is to reward or praise a desired behavior to increase the chances of repetition of that behavior to teach a particular skill), helping children to become more independent in expressing their needs.
